PoliteKey's privacy stance is simple: it goes online only while recording and stops the moment recording ends; it retains no voice at all, and the raw audio is discarded as soon as it has been used. To turn what you say into polished, considerate text, your recording and its transcript are temporarily uploaded to the cloud during use for speech recognition and text refinement; the result is returned as soon as processing is complete, with no long-term storage. Your drafts and usage data always stay on your device and cannot be accessed once they leave it. We do not build account profiles, and we do not sell your data.
1. Introduction
PoliteKey (the "App" or "we") is a third-party keyboard app for iOS. The way it works is simple: you speak, the App records your voice, transcribes it into text, and then AI helps you shape it into clear, considerate wording, which is then inserted into whatever app you are using.
This Privacy Policy explains how we handle privacy-related information when you use the App. It applies to the PoliteKey iOS application and its keyboard extension distributed through the Apple App Store, as well as to our website politekey.app.
We designed privacy as a core part of the product, not as an afterthought. Our basic principle is: whatever can be done on your device stays on your device; whatever requires the network is transmitted only at the moment it is needed, on demand, and stops as soon as it is done. Your draft history, usage statistics, and preferences are stored only on your device; we do not retain your raw voice. Please read this policy before using the App; by continuing to use it, you acknowledge the practices described here.
In one sentence: we retain no voice at all, and your data stays only on your device.
2. How We Handle Your Voice
The App's core flow is "record → transcribe → AI refinement → insert":
Recording: when you actively press to speak, the App records your voice through the microphone. Capture happens only when you trigger recording; we do not listen continuously in the background.
Transcription and refinement: to turn speech into text and shape it into considerate wording, your recording and its transcript are temporarily uploaded to the cloud during use for speech recognition (converting sound into text) and text refinement (turning spoken language into polished written wording).
Return and insertion: once cloud processing is complete, the refined text is returned to the App, and you confirm it before it is inserted into the current app.
Regarding networking and voice retention, our approach is:
Online only while recording; stops the moment recording ends. The App does not stay online to capture audio when you are not speaking.
No voice retained at all. The raw audio is discarded once the processing required for transcription is complete; we do not store your raw voice files long-term.
Minimized processing. What is temporarily uploaded to the cloud is limited to the voice and text necessary to complete speech recognition and text refinement; the result is returned once processing is complete, with no long-term storage.
3. Information We Collect and Don't Collect
(a) Information stored locally on your device
The following information always stays only on your device and cannot be accessed once it leaves it:
Draft history: the text you have refined is saved as drafts on this device, so you can review and reuse it.
Usage counts and statistics: the statistics shown on the home screen (for example, how many passages you have written, how much time you have saved, how many words you have produced, and how many days you have used the App) are accumulated locally.
Preferences: personalization options such as your default tone.
(b) Information processed temporarily to provide the service
To deliver the AI refinement feature, the following information is processed temporarily during use:
Voice: used for speech recognition; not stored long-term after processing.
Text to be refined / refined text: text transcribed from your voice and refined by AI, used to shape what you said into considerate wording and return it to you.
(c) Information we do not collect
We do not request your contacts.
We do not request your location.
We do not require you to register an account, and we do not build account profiles.
We do not sell your data.
The real purpose and limits of keyboard "Full Access"
Third-party keyboards on iOS cannot access the network by default. The App needs you to enable keyboard "Full Access" for one purpose only: to let the keyboard reach the network so it can perform AI refinement (that is, to send what you say for speech recognition and text refinement and bring back the result).
We do not use "Full Access" to steal, log, or upload what you type normally in other apps. What the App processes is the voice you produce by actively pressing to speak and its refined text—not all of your keyboard input.
4. Device Permissions
The App requires the following system permissions, each tied to a specific function:
Microphone: used to record your voice when you press to speak. If you wish to turn it off, you can find PoliteKey under iOS "Settings → Privacy & Security → Microphone." Once disabled, you will not be able to use the speak-to-record feature, and the App's core capability will be unavailable.
Keyboard "Full Access": used to let the keyboard reach the network to complete AI refinement. You can turn off "Allow Full Access" under iOS "Settings → General → Keyboard → Keyboards → PoliteKey." Once disabled, the keyboard cannot reach the network, and AI refinement will not work.
These permissions are entirely under your control and can be enabled or disabled at any time in your system settings.
5. Third-Party Services
To provide the App's features, we use the following third-party services:
Apple App Store: subscriptions and payments for the App are handled by the Apple App Store. The developer does not have access to your payment card information; related payments are handled by Apple under its terms and privacy policy.
Cloud AI processing services: used for speech recognition (converting voice into text) and text refinement (shaping spoken language into considerate wording). This processing is performed solely to deliver the App's features, transmits the required voice and text on demand, returns the result once processing is complete, and is subject to the terms of the relevant service providers.
6. Data Storage and Retention
No voice retained. The raw audio is discarded once the processing required for transcription is complete and is not stored long-term.
Drafts and usage data stored on your device. Your draft history, usage counts/statistics, and preferences are stored only on your device.
Uninstall means deletion. When you uninstall the App from your device, the drafts and usage data stored on it are deleted along with it.
You control your local data. You can delete individual drafts within the App, or clear all local data by uninstalling.
7. Data Security
We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect information during processing, including:
Encryption in transit: voice and text are transmitted over encrypted connections when uploaded to the cloud for processing.
Minimized processing: only the content necessary to complete the feature is transmitted, and the result is returned once processing is complete.
No long-term voice storage: the raw audio is discarded as soon as it has been used, reducing the risk that retention would create.
Local first: drafts and usage data are stored locally on your device and protected by your device's own security mechanisms.
Please note that no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is completely secure. We strive to use commercially reasonable means to protect your information, but we cannot guarantee absolute security.
8. Children's Privacy
The App is not designed for young children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with information without a guardian's consent, please contact us at the email below, and we will take reasonable steps to address it.
9. Your Rights and Choices
You have the following choices regarding your data:
Delete local drafts: delete drafts you no longer need within the App.
Uninstall to delete: uninstalling the App clears the drafts and usage data stored on your device.
Turn off permissions: disable the microphone or keyboard "Full Access" at any time in iOS system settings (the corresponding feature will become unavailable once disabled).
Manage / cancel subscriptions: your subscription is managed through your Apple ID, and you can view, manage, or cancel it under iOS "Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions."
10. Cross-Border Data Processing
To complete speech recognition and text refinement, the relevant cloud processing may take place on servers in different countries or regions. This means that during processing, your voice and text may be transmitted to regions outside your own location for temporary processing. Wherever processing takes place, we will, as described in this policy, transmit only on demand, discard data after use, and retain no voice long-term.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in features, technology, or legal requirements. When material changes are made, we will post a notice in the App or on our website politekey.app and update the "Last updated" date at the top of the page. 전사와 다듬기: 음성을 텍스트로 바꾸고 정중한 표현으로 다듬기 위해, 녹음과 그 전사 텍스트는 사용 중에 일시적으로 클라우드에 업로드되어 음성 인식(소리를 텍스트로 변환)과 문장 다듬기(구어를 정중한 문어체로 정리)에 사용됩니다.
반환과 입력: 클라우드 처리가 끝나면 다듬어진 텍스트가 본 앱으로 반환되고, 사용자의 확인을 거쳐 현재 앱에 입력됩니다.
통신과 음성 보관에 관한 당사의 방침은 다음과 같습니다.

키보드 "전체 접근 허용"의 실제 목적과 범위
iOS의 제3자 키보드는 기본적으로 통신할 수 없습니다. 본 앱이 키보드 "전체 접근 허용"을 켜도록 요청하는 목적은 단 하나, 키보드가 통신할 수 있게 하여 AI 다듬기를 완료하기 위함입니다(즉, 말씀하신 내용을 음성 인식과 문장 다듬기로 보내고 결과를 가져오기 위함입니다).

키보드 "전체 접근 허용": 키보드가 통신하여 AI 다듬기를 완료하는 데 사용됩니다. iOS "설정 → 일반 → 키보드 → 키보드 → PoliteKey"에서 "전체 접근 허용"을 끌 수 있습니다. 끄면 키보드가 통신할 수 없어 AI 다듬기가 작동하지 않습니다.
이 권한들은 전적으로 사용자의 통제 하에 있으며, 언제든지 시스템 설정에서 켜거나 끌 수 있습니다.
5. 제3자 서비스
본 앱의 기능을 제공하기 위해 당사는 다음 제3자 서비스를 이용합니다.
Apple App Store: 본 앱의 구독과 결제는 Apple App Store가 처리합니다. 개발자는 사용자의 결제 카드 정보에 접근하지 않으며, 관련 결제는 Apple이 자체 약관과 개인정보 처리방침에 따라 처리합니다.

삭제하면 함께 지워집니다. 본 앱을 기기에서 삭제하면 기기에 저장된 초안과 사용 데이터도 함께 삭제됩니다.
로컬 데이터는 사용자가 통제합니다. 앱 안에서 개별 초안을 삭제하거나, 앱을 삭제하여 로컬 데이터를 모두 지울 수 있습니다.
7. 데이터 보안
당사는 처리 과정의 정보를 보호하기 위해 다음을 포함한 합리적인 기술적·관리적 조치를 취합니다.
전송 구간 암호화: 음성과 텍스트는 클라우드 처리를 위해 업로드될 때 암호화된 연결을 통해 전송됩니다.
